ATM Safety and Security
A usage study
In a national study of consumers, one fourth of all survey respondents indicated
that they had postponed or canceled an ATM transaction because of security concerns.
Research indicates that half of active ATM users have concerns about safety and
security issues. Over a third of non-active users list safety and security as reasons
for not using ATMs. For more information about this study or to participate in future

Reasons For Not Using The ATM
ATM cardholders who do not use the ATM (representing 20% of the sample and more
older than younger) were asked why they do not use ATM machines for their transactions.
The most frequent reply, mentioned by 68% of this group, is that they prefer going
into the branch to conduct their transactions, followed by 46% not liking the fee
their financial institution charges to use the ATM, 34% indicating safety and security
concerns related to using an ATM.
